Dear McCutcheon High School Administration

Under Burton, the Mavericks won Class 4A state championships in 1999 and 2003 and were the single-class state runner-up in 1994.

Burton coached two Mr. Baseball winners: Clayton Richard (2003), who pitched for the Chicago Cubs last season, and Logan Sowers (2014), who plays at Indiana University. Also Coach Burton coached Nick Wittgren who currently pitches for the Florida Marlins McCutcheon won 11 sectional titles and five regional championships during Burton's tenure and also captured 14 conference titles in four different leagues, including the North Central Conference championship last spring in McCutcheon's first year in the NCC.

Burton started his career in education as a science teacher at Southwestern High School in 1974, TSC spokesperson Sue Scott said. He began teaching health and science at McCutcheon a year later and became the school’s athletic director in 1980. Burton has been in his current role as an assistant principal since 1998.

Coach Jacob Burton was the head coach for 35 years as McCutcheon's head baseball coach, in which he ranks among the winningest coaches in Indiana high school baseball history, compiling a 799-372 record in 37 seasons at McCutcheon.

We the undersigned believe the current baseball field should be renamed after Coach Burton to reflect the impact he has had on his former players, former students, the Lafayette Indiana area and the State of Indiana.
