WILLIAM N. BOYERS

Coach and Teacher

(1956-1995)

 

PERSONAL:  William N. Boyers served as a teacher and coach at Dudley High School from 1956 to 1995.  Every young man who has been a student at Dudley High School life has been affected in a positive way by coming in contact with William Boyers.  In conversation, they refer to him as “Mr. B.”.  His tough and caring leadership style has been instrumental in the positive development of many Dudley athletes and students.  William Boyers feels his contribution to Dudley is “Making boys into better men”.  When you think of Dudley High School Football and Track Program, the first name that comes to mind is “William Boyers”.  William Boyers is an icon at Dudley High School.  He is a foster parent and member of the Children’s Home Society.  William Boyers is a life time member of the North Carolina Coaches Association.  He has donated trophies for wrestling and help raise money for scholarships.  He is a Charter member of the Dudley Educational/Sports Hall of Fame/Hall of Distinction.  Also, he has been designated the official cook for the organization and does all the cooking especially the fish at their Fundraisers.

EDUCATION:  St. Johns High School Graduate (1949), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, B.S. Degree Physical Education, North Carolina A&T State University (1956).

ATHLETICS:  All American and All CIAA Honors in Football at A&T, inducted in the N.C. A&T Sports Hall of Fame.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS:  William Boyer’s entire teaching and coaching career was at James B. Dudley High School from 1956 to 1995.  During this time, he coached football for 35 years as the line coach, coached basketball for 5 years, Head Track Coach for 34 years, Head Wrestling Coach for 20 years, and Assistant Baseball Coach for 1 year.  Track Coach of the Year Award 1985-86, 1988-89 and 1991.  Second in the state for track in 1991.  Coach of the Year in Wrestling 1986-87.

EXPERIENCES:  Served in the United States Army from 1953 to 1955.  He is a volunteer for Triad Health Project.

PRESENT POSITION:  Retired (1995), however, still substitutes from time to time.

MARITAL STATUS:  Married to wife Necia Boyers for 30 years.
