The Co-op on Skye has stores at Kyle, Broadford and two in Portree. These are the only supermarkets available on the whole island so you have no choice but to shop there if you want to eat. Either that or drive for 2 hours over to Inverness! In Portree the two stores, which you would expect to stock the same items as the same price, charge you more if you shop at the smaller store in the village. For instance, a pack of butter can be almost 70 pence more expensive just for the same item if you buy it in the store in the village. The quality of produce is shocking, expecially in the fruit and veg section, they regularly run out of bread (especially in the summer) and other common staple items, they never stock in accordance with demand, the choice is shocking (vegetarians have been eating the same stuff for years now as the stock has not changed, if you like quorn pieces or mince you are fine but be prepared to be eating this for the next 50 years!), the prices are exorbinant (prepare to be paying over a tenner just to get some a loaf of bread, a pack of butter, pack of cheese and a carton of milk!) and for too long this has been accepted. It is simply just lucicrous that we are being held to ransom and are just sitting back and taking it! NO MORE!! Please join the cause so that we can try to make a change to a fairer more cost effective and better supermarket world on the island!
