Name: Christopher Minguez on Jan 19, 2013Comments: The Hofmann Forest provides the only effective field based instruction in a full scale that the University provides. Without the Hofmann, NCSU's forestry program stops being the leading field forestry school on the East Coast, and starts being just another land grant university.Flag

Name: Terri Galinski on Jan 20, 2013Comments: I graduated with a BS in Forest Management in 1999 from NCSU. I am involved in forestry research in my current role, and there is nothing in North America that compares to the Hofmann Forest. It's not only an educational forest for NCSU but used by the Forest Productivity Coop to share research findings with companies throughout the SE. As much as some may want to believe, we have not "figured it all out" when it comes to southern pine management and ecological balances. With questions arising regarding climate change and carbon sequestration, having a large "working" forest to study and monitor over decades is a key asset to even begin to address these issues. Please reconsider selling this forest to other land objectives. The historical research alone makes it priceless.Flag

Name: Leslie Newton on Jan 20, 2013Comments: I agree fully with the statements in this petition. The Hoffman Forest has been an invaluable resource to the school of forestry in training students. As our forest resources become more stressed from fragmentation and the influx of exotic pests, professionals trained in forest management are of utmost value to our nation's environment. Please stop this sale.Flag

Name: Heather Reilly on Jan 20, 2013Comments: Class of 2000, Forest Management. I am 100% against this sale of Hofmann Forest. Hofmann forest is an invaluable research & teaching asset for the CNR and NCSU. You will be depriving future generations of NCSU Foresters with the tools & experiences that they need to be able to contribute to their fullest capacities in their future careers.Flag

Name: James E. Reese on Jan 20, 2013Comments: The Hoffman has been an anchor on the Forest Management Curriculum and the sale of such a jewel would be a tragedy. The reported value of the Hoffman would only be if the forest were bulldozed and developed. It value is unmeasurable as a teaching tool and a natural beauty.Flag
