Last Saturday’s St Patrick’s March Against Anti-Irish Racism and Sectarianism was cancelled due to the unreasonable demands of Glasgow City Council and Strathclyde police.
Despite Cairde na hEireann agreeing to changes to the time, route and rally the Council and police continued to demand extra and unprecedented conditions. This is part of a concerted attack on the Irish community in Scotland. We have seen physical attacks from loyalists and fascists and now politicians are joining in. Irish Bars have been banned from flying the Irish flag and playing Irish music. Irish people are being harassed and intimidated at airports and ferry ports.
It is time for the Irish community in Scotland to demand equality.
Cairde na hEireann have today written to the Leader of Glasgow City Council, Charles Gordon. In the letter we outline our view that recent events reveal "institutional bias" and a council behaving in a "discriminatory manner".
Cairde na hEireann demands to be treated the same as any other applicant organisation and that the rights of the Irish community in Scotland be upheld.
So please sign this petition and help us to highlight this discrimination.
We would like to ask all groups to sign as individuals please, thanks |
