Name: Gunvor Andersson on May 7, 2002Country: CAComments: Having worked in mental health for the past 25 years, I see us going backwards, instead of forwards. There just arn't enough services for the mentally ill, which includes seniors, adults and youth. There have been too many cutbacks resulting in fewer services for the mentally ill population. There are not sufficient hospital beds or long term beds at Riverviw Hospital for instance who keep closing more and more beds. There arn't enough housing for severely mentally ill youth nor adequate follow up to name a few areas of concernFlag

Name: Jenny Cashmore on May 7, 2002Country: CAComments: I have worked as a mental health professional for 11 years now. My father was a psychiatrist who worked from the 1950's to the 1990's. On good days, I think we are further ahead. On medium or bad days, I wonder how much we've progressed in truly helping people with mental health challenges be accepted and integrated members of our society, particularly those with serious and persistent mental illness--who often tend to be poor and lack social supports; I worry that they will continue to be marginalized members of our so-called advanced society. Sincerely, Jenny CashmoreFlag
