   Comments: The recent fare increases will have a devastating impact on the economy of rural communities who are already having to cope with the impact of higher fuel and food prices. Fare increases will lead to a further downturn in visitor numbers and have repercussions throughout the fragile tourist industry on which many of our residents and businesses rely. Urgent action is needed to sustain our island and remote commuties.

    Comments: During school holidays and wekends a family fare to be introduced, thus cutting the huge cost of taking a family for a day out on the mainland.Help to parents with children attending training, further education, courses on the mainland. a seven day return ticket for visitors NOT FIVE as at present.

    Comments: I lived in the Western Isles for three decades and in all that time they lobbied for RET. It is now time for implementing RET to all Scottish island communities by taking a lead from Scandinavia rather than London.

    Comments: RET, promoted for many years by the SNP in Stornoway, may be the way forward. Sorting out the mad artifical constraints on rail and ferry operators which prevents them from making connections would also help. Sorting out the mad free-marketeers in the alternate Westminster governing parties who were responsible can be left to the electorate.
