Name: Mary Nolan on Jan 30, 2010Comments: I am appalled every first Sunday as I drive out of the city to see these poor vulnerable horses in the hands of these youths - on their way to a life of abuse and neglect. The Evening Herald has highlighted over the past fews years cases of terrible abuse and has shown photos of dead horses in Dunsink and other areas. Recently during the freeze up a horse was drowned in the canal in Clondalkin when the ice broke underneath it. Smithfield has to be stopped. I have personally written to the City Manager on a number of occasions and got a reply stating that they were looking for another "venue" for the market. This is not the answer. Moving it to another venue will not stop the abuse. Surely the Green Party now have the opportunity to stop this abuse. Please stop it.Flag

Name: Colleen McDuling on Jan 30, 2010Comments: Horses are absolutely wonderfrul animals. Many years ago I was severely brain damaged due to a virus. My own beloved horse saved my life. I had equitherapy every day. I owe my recovery and subsequent honorary doctorate in animal behaviour to her. Thank you, Golden Lassie! I sign this petition in your memory.Flag

Name: Ann Gruden on Jan 30, 2010Comments: If the "ancient rights" of kings can be rightfully abolished by an evolved society, then that society should be capable of abolishing those of "horse traders." Don't MOVE it, END it; or at the very least ENACT strict regulations to protect the welfare of the animals who have arrived there through no fault of their own. This horrific maltreatment of living creatures is repulsive and a disgrace to humanity. This continued barbarity brings only shame to the people of Ireland.Flag

Name: Kelly Studer on Jan 31, 2010Comments: I find this deplorable and disgusting. These so called humans that treat these horses like they are sacks of potatoes should be tortured as these animals are tortured. The so called humans that allow this to happen should be treated just as the horses are treated. See how they would like to be treated like they aren't alive. What if it's their child(ren) abusing these animals? Would you want your kids to be abused like animals? How about your pet? Treat others as you would want to be treated, including animals that God put on this earth.Flag

Name: Sheila Mahon on Jan 31, 2010Comments: Cruelty to animals is one of the distinguishing vices of low and base minds. Wherever it is found, it is a certain mark of ignorance and meanness; a mark which all the external advantages of wealth, splendor, and nobility, cannot obliterate. It is consistent neither with learning nor true civility.Flag
