Close Mount Trenchard - End Direct Provision
We, the people of Ireland, call for the immediate
closure of Mount Trenchard and an end to the institutionalised accommodation of
asylum seekers in Ireland under the system of Direct Provision.
There are 4 Direct Provision centres in the Limerick region. One of the centres, Mount Trenchard in Foynes, County Limerick is regarded by many as the worst of the 34 centres nationwide. It is considered to be completely inadequate and provides sub-standard and inhumane accommodation conditions.
We fully support the national campaign to end
direct provision and we are also asking for an immediate investigation of the
Direct Provision system, which has been condemned nationally and internationally
for its blatant and systematic abuse of fundamental human rights. We request
alternative and reformed reception processes which should lead to effective
integration of asylum seekers. Reform should recognise the role that supportive
reception conditions can play in an effective application process which should
move asylum seekers towards independent living at the earliest opportunity.
We hereby call for theimmediate closure of Mount Trenchardas an accommodation
reception centre. We also call for anend
to the Direct Provision system in Ireland.
