We call upon the Australian government to recognise the negative effect that climate change will have on human health in substantially increasing global morbidity and mortality. As Australian medical students we urge the government to take immediate and sustainable action to reduce the effects of climate change on health by ensuring Australia achieves the greatest feasible reduction in greenhouse gas emissions at a minimum of 25-40% of 1990 levels by 2020 and 80% by 2050 in accordance with the IPCC recommendations and works to achieve a cap on greenhouse gas emissions such that the atmospheric concentrations of CO2 stabilise at 350ppm.
