A CLIMATE CHANGE ACTION AGENDA FOR THE NEXT PARLIAMENT
Dear Mr Howard, Mr Rudd, and all who will potentially represent the Australian people;
Australia needs to make deep cuts in greenhouse emissions and tackle climate change, and we need to start now, not in decades to come.
While there's always more that can be done, here are the key steps we believe our next Parliament must take in the next term of Parliament, from 2007 to 2010:
1. Ratify Kyoto and commit to meaningful targets (30% reduction by 2020 for developed countries)
2. Introduce a national emissions trading scheme with a meaningful cap on carbon emissions
3. Campaign for zero energy growth through efficiency
4. Set a legislated target for 25% of Australia's electricity from renewable energy by 2020
5. A public transport system fit for the 21st century
