My name is Louis B. Withers III, I am 46 years old. In 1999, I was charged with an illegal gun possession. I was told that it was only a "misdemeanor" charge by a Public Defender. I am a security guard and have been since 1989/July. And for over 20 years I have never had any arrests on my record involving weapons nor criminal activities. Years have passed since the conviction. I did not know that the charge was moved to "felony". I have to have a Permanent Employee Registration Card(PERC). In order to work in security, this card must be obtained. A background check must be done ever 5 years. I have successfully done so for every 5 years since 1989. And no such charge has ever appeared on my application for a renewed "PERC" card. With a felony I would not be able to work as a security guard. I found out about the felony charge 3 years ago when I was making an attempt to rent an apartment and the management told me what was on my background sheet. I have been working in security field for 20 years and never have broken any "Laws". I am asking, can I have my record cleared or repaired?
