The lack of regulations requiring sexually revealing magazines, newspapers, and book covers to be placed anywhere; especially eye-level to the children in grocery stores is causing emotional and psychological damage to many people in our society, especially our impressionable children. I personally feel mentally molested everytime I see near naked women displayed on these covers, especially with their provocative headlines that are shamelessly thrown in our faces everywhere we look. As a survivor of child sexual abuse, these images and messages are always reminding me of how children are being exposed to sex when they shouldn’t be. It is time that America cleans up its act and protects its children and adults from the onslaught of the media rampage of “sex everywhere without restraint”. We protect our children and ourselves by our government and police from child molesters, rapists, and “flashers”, yet the media is allowed to portray any image they desire, anywhere they want, with no resistance from the American people or its leaders whatsoever. Yes, the media hides behind the “freedom of speech” right, but what about our rights to be protected from them. What about the rights of our children to not be exposed to nearly naked women and “sexual advice” statements shoved in their faces (right at their eye level) whenever they go through the checkout lines to get a candy bar or groceries with their moms. What about the rights of people that are offended at near-nudity and the sexually provocative statements on the covers of these media items. Where are our rights? Yes, they have the right to freedom of speech but they do not have the right to put it anywhere they want to. Our country realized the dangers of smoking to the American public and decided to make designated smoking areas for those who wish to engage in this behavior. There should be designated areas away from the open public view for media items that display sexual-types of materials – not in checkout lines where everyone, especially our children, to have to be exposed to these influences. Come on America, lets put our foot down on the media barrage of filth in this country. Protect your children by starting with this one small thing, then we can move on to the next thing, and together we can Clean up the Media Exposure in America!
