Name: Anonymous on Sep 4, 2009Comments: My sons school was one of the few schools that still had a nutritious snack provided to JK and SK children (parents contributed towards the cost of the food); however, due to the TDSB cutbacks the school had to eliminate the teaching assistants position leaving the primary teachers with no one to prepare the snacks for the children. Now each child has to bring their own snack to school, leaving some watching while others are eating. Instead of making the system better they (the powers that be) only make it worse, they are putting very little value on the future generations of this country.Flag

Name: Kerri Mannall on Sep 5, 2009Comments: Yes, Canada needs a meal program! I am a teacher and have started a meal program in my school in Winnipeg. I have applied to Breakfast for Learning for a grant and have never been accepted. It is very tough to keep finding places that will donate funds in order to maintain the availability of nutritious foods.Flag

As an aspiring dietitian I agree with the article that we need to invest in our children and we need to provide them universally with access to nutritious food that is local when possible and produced in a way that is environmentally friendly. Name: Anonymous on Sep 8, 2009Comments: I volunteered at a breakfast program at our local school. Amazed at how many parents send their children to school unfed. Also amazed on the lack of knowledge when it came to healthy choices. I am in favour of a breakfast program in all schools providing the food served is proper nutrition. Proper nutrition does not include white bread, cheese whiz, bagels, etc.Flag
