Class size is directly linked to improved student achievement. We are already struggling with few assistants and paraprofessionals. Please make smaller class sizes a priority. Thank you.Flag

Name: Yan Zhou on Dec 23, 2002State: NYCountry: USComments: My daughter is in G&T program, 1st grade. There are 28 students in her class, with just 1 teacher and random other help. This has been causing a lot of noticable problems. Constantly the teacher's attention to teaching is distracted due to the diverse and big number of behavior problems. With less kids in the class and of course more attention to each individual student from the 1 teacher, I, my self as an educator of years teaching experience, firmly believe that will highly improve the teaching and learning efficiency and result. Please help our kids with your wise and informed decision on this matter. Again, smaller classes are vital to better school experience than larger ones. (28 are too many, at least for a 1st grade G & T class). Thank you in advance for your kind help. YanFlag

How can they be getting any advanced learning under these conditions It makes me feel like these classes were created just to get more money into the schools and NOT to give special instruction to these kids, part in which was supposed to be smalled class sizes to begin with.Flag

Name: Sara Sternglass on Dec 24, 2002State: NYCountry: USComments: I have three boys in the public school system. My oldest is a gifted student , plays the cello at Mark Twain in Brooklyn, who has applied to Brooklyn Tech as his first choice, LaGuardia and Murrow, all great schools, but we are going to send him to Xavier H.S, and pay the 8,000 a year. Why Because the 3 best high schools in our city all have class sizes capped at 30 and all run at an average of 35, versus 23; 23 in a private high school. My other 2 go to P.S. 38 in Brooklyn, where the classes are capped at 20, and currently hold 16 and 17, and both boys are reading far above grade level, and the fifth grader is doing math at a 12th grade level. Small classes matter.Flag

I urge you to make small class size a priority so that all students in NYC public schools have a reasonable opportunity to learn and grow intellectually. Thank you.Flag
