I have received enough feedback to start a petition to move forward on changing the playoff format for class 4A football. I believe our current format is not conducive for a state championship.

This new format would allow for all teams to still make the playoffs and get a ninth game. It would also allow teams to play at least one regional section game. The format would change for the final 16 teams which would be all the teams in the section finals with the format we are currently using.

Once the 16 section final teams remain they would then be seeded according to QRF. This bracket would have four quadrants. The top four teams according to QRF would get the #1 seed in each quadrant. The next four teams, ranked by QRF would get the #2 seeds in each quadrant but the lowest ranked #2 seed would go into the bracket with the highest ranked #1 seed.

Then the next four teams would get the #3 seed in each quadrant with the highest ranked #3 seed going in the quadrant with the highest ranked #1 seed. Lastly, the remaining four teams would get the #4 seed in each quadrant with the Lowest ranked #4 seed (the 16th ranked team in the tournament) would get matched with the highest ranked #1 seed (#1 overall).

I have sent an email out to all class 4A coaches of what the playoffs would have looked like with the final 16 teams. This petition will not allow me to upload that document. Please refer to your email to see that bracket.
