Comments: While I hardly participate in political activity of any sort (even petitions such as these), I do feel that there is gross inadequacy in regulating the actions of employers in Singapore. This case is particularly disturbing because SMRT is not any small-time employer from whom workers, the public, or even the MOM can easily seek accountability. The difficulty that many employees who are not covered by the Employment Act faces in seeking redress in Singapore is not disputed. Wage discrimination is openly condoned by the labour chief, and there is probably no more compliant labour union in the world than ours. Given this sad turn of events, it is timely for the public to share their thoughts.

Comments: From a legal point of view, the Act itself is unconstitutional and should not trump basic human rights of free speech and freedom of assembly.
