Name: Robert Neely on Feb 16, 2010Comments: I highly support a street tree replacement program in the city budget. I live in a historic section of Dilworth and five large trees within one block of my home, were cut down within the past month, 3 were street trees. I was told once by a wise man..... The old trees in and around Dilworth & Myers Park and other sections of Charlotte were all planted about the same time, and you can expect to see them die all about the same time.Zip Code::Flag

Name: Debra Glennon on Feb 16, 2010Comments: Trees are critical to the health of the community, economically , socially, and culturally. We need to reverse the trend of the past 20 years of trees dying and being cut down at a faster pace than they are being planted, so that in 20 years, we have a thriving and healthy tree canopy, not barren streets and unhealthy air and water.Zip Code::Flag

Name: Maarten Pennink on Feb 18, 2010Comments: The general alarm pointing at the declining tree canopy in Charlotte speaks for itself. Make it easier for individuals to plant trees and require replacement trees to be planted where one is removed. Reducing traffic through narrowing roads (East Boulevard), which causes people to resort increasingly to utilize public transportation, gives old trees the chance to live a long and a for us beneficial life.Zip Code:: 28203Flag

Name: Janelle Travis on Feb 18, 2010Comments: Our tree canopy is so important to our life style, health, etc. I understand we have lost half our tree canopy and more old trees are falling daily. It takes so many years for a tree to mature, it will be sad if we don't take action immediately, thank you for your concern and consideration. JanelleZip Code:: 28209Flag

Name: Rick Roti on Feb 18, 2010Comments: Charlotte and all of Mecklenburg continue to lose trees and open space unnecessarily as growth continues. The city plants only about 800 trees per year and takes out about 400, netting only 400. In this economy even fewer are being planted by the city. We have space for 400,000 public trees in Charlotte and need a much more aggressive tree planting policy and budget to save our canopy. This initiative is a good start.Zip Code:: 28277Flag

Name: Diane Cain on Feb 18, 2010Comments: We must save the "old" trees. In some states, if the tree is over 100 years old, it is illegal to cut it down. We need strict rules against the complete de-forestation of new developments as well. Allowing developers to replant new trees for so many cut ones is not acceptable.Zip Code:: 28211Flag

Name: Ann King on Feb 18, 2010Comments: I live in the Sedgefield neighbhorhood. The tree canopy is instrumental in creating and enhancing the character in our neighbhorhood. The neighbhorhood is ~60 years old and so are these trees, if not older. As the city is growing, there is an increased need to improve the infrastructure in our neighbhorhood. Between the aging trees that are dying and the infrastructure improvments that will remove trees we are loosing the canopy that is part of our character. Trees are quantifiably important to infrastructure as well. they have numerous benefits to the environment including air quality and water quality. Let's make it a priority to incude trees as part of our infrastructure, not just the concrete and pavement. Thank you for considering trees as an important component of our infrastructure!Zip Code:: 28209Flag

Name: Anonymous on Feb 19, 2010Comments: Charlotte's trees also provide important important natural cooling by providing shade and keeping too much sunlight from being absorbed by asphalt and other surfaces. Anyone who has ever driven down Old Concord Rd in the middle of summer can attest to how much cooler it is than the rest of the city. Cutting down more trees will only make the city even more miserable in the summer.Zip Code:: 28227Flag
