Name: Whitney Richards on Nov 4, 2012Comments: As an avid gun owner and hunting enthusiast I would like to recommend that Graneros Gorge not be a site for a firing range because of its sensitive natural habitat. I firmly believe that it is up to us hunters to protect these sensitive environments which are key migration routes for animals. I look forward to participating in shooting at a gun range at a more suitable location in the future. Furthermore, there is not reason to select a site where this is already considerable opposition because this will only provide negativity for those of us who are passionate gun owners. Thank you, Whitney RichardsFlag

Very concerned about lead pollution when hiking in and around the Gorge, safety of children and animals. Strongly disagree with locating shooting range next to park where families and children will be.Flag

Name: Tom Olson on Nov 8, 2012Comments: I am not against guns and not against shooting ranges. I served in the U.S. Air Force as a Security Policeman and carried an M-16 much of the time, so I know the importance of gun safety. The Graneros is not the place to have a shooting range since it is too much of a pristine area. Another location for the shooting range should be chosen.Flag

Name: Margaret Frakes on Nov 8, 2012Comments: This is definitely not the place for a shooting range. I love to shoot, but this is not the place for it. Bullets will keep the wildlife away as well as the people that go there to enjoy the canyon. Please do not put a shooting range anywhere near the canyon.Flag

Name: Neil Nystrom on Nov 9, 2012Comments: I oppose the gun range for a number of reasons. The most important reason is that we will very likely hear the noise from the range. We hear sewer plant noise now, plus occasional gunshot noise from that general direction. Don't want the possibility of noise from a gun range added to what we already hear.Flag

Comments: I am against a shooting range on the Graneros Gorge Park property. The Pueblo Regional Development Plan and the more recent conservation plan (Our Land, Our Water, Our Future: a Conservation Plan for the Western Lower Arkansas Valley) by the Palmer Land Trust, highlighted the Gorge as a priority for land conservation efforts. A shooting range is not a compatible use for a property that has amazing potential as a public open space. I hope this petition draws a closer look at the gorge, its amazing scenic, cultural and wildlife habitat values, and needed protection from these and other threats.Flag -
