Support an Independent, Nonpartisan Citizen Redistricting Commission
Hello friends, This week, I became a co-sponsor of a bill that would establish an independent, nonpartisan citizen redistricting commission to replace the State Legislature’s task force. This bill would place the task of redrawing district lines directly in the voters’ hands. An independent commission comprised of voters takes the politics out of the process, since some legislators fight redistricting to defend their seats. There is resistance to this reform by a lot of entrenched interests, but I feel this is a chance to accomplish real reform in New York State government. If you can take a few moments of your time to sign this petition, we can show those interests that voters support real reform from the ground up. Read the full text of the bill here: http://www.assembly.state.ny.us/leg/?default_fld=&bn=A05279&Summary=Y&Actions=Y&Votes=Y&Memo=Y&Text=Y Thank you for your time. As always, please contact my office at 885-9630 if you have any questions. Sincerely, SAM HOYT MEMBER OF ASSEMBLY
