My son started playing grid kid football in the 5th grade he was benched as were 30 other players on his team while we watched the same 11 players play both offense and defense, week after week. The 30 benchwarmers were told repeatedly that they sucked. My son left football as did those same 30 players, and they all found different sports. My son is a great athlete but in the 5th grade he was growing so fast he was awkward and clumsy. Its not Chuck Johnson's fault that the grid kid program in Idaho Falls only caters to the 7 kids who's fathers coach the team. These are the people who destroy your program, this is why you have no players at the high school level. These are the people who believe their kid is the next Payton Manning, and everyone else sucks. These are the people who decide in the 5th grade who the best athletes will be in the 12th grade. My son would of made a great football player he is big and fast and can kick the hell out of a ball. But they didn't want him in the 5th grade so now when he is a senior you didn't have him along with 30 other seniors. Look closely football community you're goal should be player retention and development at the younger levels, and developing a love for the game. But how do you love the game when you spend an entire season on the bench. It takes a man of great character to not only coach and teach their own child but also everyones child, and to put player development ahead of winning. Its easy to coach the best, but what is the best in the 5th grade is not always the best in the 12th grade, that is why everyone deserves the chance at the younger levels, or you will end up as you are today with many of your best athletes playing other sports. I don't feel a bit sorry for you people you drive players away from your game, with your elitist attitudes. Chuck my heart goes out to you your job has become incredibly difficult.Flag

I've seen him go above and beyond helping several individual teenagers in his time as a coach. He is a great ambassador for the program and a wonderful role model for the kids. I support him.Flag

I remember Coach Johnson and the lessons he taught. Hang in there Coach. As evident by all the heartfelt posts, the victory is yours.Flag

I wouldn't exchange my high school football experience for anything, I would do it all over again if I could. No matter what our record was at the end of the season I loved every second that i played for Coach!Flag

He also is a man of character and integrity who is the kind of role model that young men need. His only shortcoming is that he is a Minnesota Vikings fan. I am proud to be your cousin, Chuck!Flag

Comments: I am Chuck's cousin, and I am hacked off that ANYONE would feel he should not coach. Chuck Johnson is a man of character and integrity, and we NEED people like him coaching young men. He also is incredibly knowledgeable and passionate about football. His one and only shortcoming? Being a Minnesota Vikings fan.Flag -

Name: Lisa Hart on Nov 28, 2012Comments: This kind of petition surely makes me sad. I have had a son play for Idaho Falls High School for the past 3 years. Yes, he is one of those players that many of you feel has failed. He did not win many games, but what he takes away from experiencing play for the Tigers and Coach Johnson far outweighs any wins that many of you think is so important. Because he played football, he knows how to work hard. He knows that when you get beat, you pick yourself up and keep working. He knows how to support and respect teammates and coaches even when things may not be going the best. He has learned the things that will help him get through this life with strength and integrity. This is a boy who at the last game of his high school career didn't want to leave the football field because he loved the game and he gave it his whole heart. What more could a mother ask for than to have her son learn these important life lessons. If you believe life is about wins and losses you will be sorely disappointed someday. Thank you Coach Johnson for all the time and love you give to the boys at Idaho Falls High School and for the influence and support you have been in my son's life.Flag

He has always had respect for coaches he has played for and respected the players he has coached. I have watched him for many years and have seen his teams always improve from the beginning of the season to the end of the season. I am grateful not only for the coach that he is, but also for the good man that he truly is.Flag
