On November 29 2004 Fred Moss, a member of the travelling community went missing from home. Home being a caravan on a traveller site in Sawbridgeworth, Essex. He also, from time to time stayed at another address, at Lisa Court, in Cambridge. He had been out for the day, allegedly looking for somewhere to take his dog coursing and failed to return home, as expected for his evening meal. His family reported him missing from home at 1am on the 30th November and within days the police had decided that this was a murder enquiry. The reasons for this are unclear as Fred Moss was a 21 year old man with no mental health issues, who stayed away from home on various occasions, often staying with relatives. Chris Nudds was a friend of Fred Moss, although he himself was not a traveller. Chris had seen Fred Moss on the day he disappeared and because it is alleged that he was the last person to see him Chris very quickly became suspected of the murder of him. No body has ever been found and therefore, especially given the travellers transient lifestyle there can be no guarantee that Fred Moss is actually dead, he may well have chosen to move away from his family an live life elsewhere. Initial police investigations yielded no firm evidence that Chris was connected to the disappearance of Fred Moss in any way. After being remanded to Bedford prison pending further inquiries Chris was charged, following an alleged (yet completely denied) cell confession. An inmate, who himself was in prison on remand, for sexual offences committed against his two nieces, aged 11 and 13 told the police that Chris had confessed to the killing of Fred Moss.(He was rewarded for his part in the conviction of Chris Nudds by receiving a paltry two and a half year prison sentance for the disgusting things he did to those little girls). Chris was convicted of the murder of Fred Moss in February 2006 and sentance to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 30 years. The Justice for Chris Nudds Campaign firmly believe that a severe miscarriage of justice has occurred and pledge to fight for as long as necessary to clear his name.
