The petition
Chrismas Lodge residential care home was closed by Hampshire County Council in November 2005 citing its unsuitability and costs to meet new care standards, since then it has lain empty, a target for graffiti and vandals. The site has been confirmed by HCC as no longer meeting their needs and will be sold for development. Development on this site will be detrimental not only to the local residents through increased traffic on narrow roads, but also to the wildlife in the adjoining Brickfields Country Park.
Our aim is to stop this unnecesary development and to suggest and provide workable alternatives for the use of Chrismas Lodge and its environment. To do this we need your help, please sign our petition and write to either Rushmoor Borough Council, Hampshire County Council, our local councillors, or better still ALL of them. History -
Brickfields Country Park is possibly the UK's smallest Country Park. The park and the land on which Chrismas Lodge stands was originally part of The Aldershot Brick and Tile Works, one of the main brickworks that supplied the growing town when the British Army moved there during the middle 1800's. Sadly the Brick and Tile Works was re-developed many years ago but the remaining land became Brickfields Country Park. It can only benefit the local community and wildlife if Chrismas Lodge were reintegrated into Brickfields Park.
