I am 40 years old and disabled. I lost a leg due to infection a few years ago and I have an artificial limb. I also have diabetes, liver damage from the infection, heart problems and am on alot of expensive medications. When my grandfather passed away he left me his old house where he lived when I was a child. The house is not in good condition. The roof is falling in, there is no plumbing or source of heat and it is infested with rats and raccoons because it has not been lived in for years. I receive a disability check and insurance from social security and have section 8 housing, due to my health I am unable to work and my wife cares for me. Recently social security has taken my check, which is my only source of income, and my insurance. They are also taking my housing, all because they say the house is a resource. The house should be condemned, it is unlivable. It sits on a steep hill and I have to crawl to get to it. Social security advised I would have to sell it for almost $10,000 and spend the money immediatley in order to re-instate my disability check and insurance, and keep my housing. No one will buy the house because it is not worth even that amount of money. I am now awaiting a chance to go before a judge to plead my case. I cannot work, I am in a position where I rely on the government to provide for me and they are taking it away. I have no other source of income and I am scared. I don't know what will happen to my wife and I if they take everything away from us. I have several future appointments scheduled for my heart and liver that I will be unable to keep because I cannot afford to go. I am asking for help, I cannot do this alone. I am asking for empathy, compassion and am hoping that with enough signatures I can see a judge faster before I lose everything I have. Please help me, save my life.
