Comments: I think the Family Law Act is pathetic and wholly support the cause you are promoting. It's time the guys had a fair say and stopped being overridden by women just because they are the mother of the child. Being the mother of the child does not make them a better or worse parent and fathers can be equally if sometimes not better parents. Good Luck with your cause.

Comments: SHARED PARENTING LONG OVERDUE Please support the Shared Parenting Bill and give back life to children and their fathers. My children want to spend more time with me their father but can't due to the Adversarial Legal System and the common practice of awarding children to mothers to form single-parent-headed families. Family Law Judges discriminate massively against fathers by exercising their very wide discretion under colour of law to place children with their mother only. Fathers have limited contact and next to no say in their children

Comments: There is currently a Joint Parenting Bill on the table from Senator Len Harris I urge all to support it - Senator Harris has offered to withdraw his bill if the Government put up a bill that is its equal - so do not withhold your support because this is an independent member's bill

Comments: The current system encourages disputation due to the substantial financial advantages conferred upon the residence parent. My fear with shared parenting proposals is that they will encourage even more outlandish and unsubstantiated allegations of violence and abuse in order to ensure that the FC will determine that the parents cannot work together and thus award sole residence to the person making the allegations.

Comments: We need the following to occur: 1.Parliament needs to pass the joint residency legislation of Senator Len Harris. 2. Repeal the child support legislation and abolish the Child Support Agency. 3. Abolish the Family Court and replace the Court with a Family Tribunal. 4. Remove the association of possession of children with regard to any property settlement and superannuation splitting. Regards John Flanagan.

Comments: Yes , totally agree. If my ex had been obligated to go to mediation as requested, the drastic action I took would have been avoided and her family would not have to deal with the problems they now face. Luckily for me I was fortunate to have some very good friends who happened to be solicitors in family law that gave me the support and information to pursue my childs rights when I was becoming angry and disalusioned with the unfairness of it all. Keep me in touch with progress. Robert.

Comments: I at first hestitated in signing this - not having both sides of the situation - but am prepared to sign it on the following basis a) The father appears to be a good fellow and is willing to be open about it. nlike many fathers, he also would have spent considerable time at home looking after the child becuase of the nature of his work - daytrading. b) I have heard many cases of unfairness to fathers in particular on these matters, one of them being a personal friend and feel the courts often don't consider the circumstance adequately from both sides as it is time consuming and courts always have backlogs.

Comments: The Bill isn't important. An Implementation Body given statutory authority to look at Family Court Records and files and Child Protection Records & Files and make a report on just how the Aims & Objectives are being implemented / met and what alterstions & ajustments need to be made is. Reason: An Act without an empowered implementation Body does nothing. Question: If the implementation is left up to the Family Court, wont we just end up with more of the same again, based on case law again. The problem: It's not so much the Act, it is the parties with vested interests (Lawers, The Court system, Child Protection Service, Women's Legal Bodies, Political Parties seeking the Women's Vote). They are the reason why -NO MATTER WHAT YOU DO WITH THE ACT - Without an Empowered Implementation Body, nothing will change. Example: The Wistleblowers Protection Act. There is no empowered implementation body, the Act has no power & nothing happens. Example: The Child Protection Act. There is an empowered implementation Body, the act has power. Who should make up this Implementation Body: Those who have lobied / struggled for the implementation of the Joint Parenting Principals and the abollishment of Sole Parenting Principals. A selection of those from Family Law Reform & Joint Parenting Groups. Why: They are the ones who know the pitfalls and who will not tollerate "Bullshit" along the way. I believe there is already suficiant in the Family Law act for an Empowered Implementation Body to enforce a presumption of Joint Parenting.

Comments: My experiences with the Family Court of Australia have convinced me that it is the greatest source of institutionalised injustice in our society today. The legal system it administers is primarly for the benefit of lawyers. Too many people have been broken finacially and emotionly seeking basic justice and the right to have contact with their children.

Comments: EQUAL SHARED JOINT PARENTING is the ONLY intelligent solution for children after parental separation or divorce. PRIME care leads to SOLE care and PAS. I am the WA State Director of the Shared Parenting Council of Australia www.spca.org.au and I run the Joint Parenting Online Forum at www.JointParenting.net so really you are preaching to the converted. I have been involved in negotiating and observing MANY family court, child residence regimes and have witnessed the vast difference in the children's development when close relationships with BOTH parents are maintained.
