Hamza al-Khatib was arrested at a protest in Daraa, Syria, on April 29, 2011. He was only 13 years old when he was demonstrating for his right to live in freedom. On May 25, Hamza's burned and disfigured body was returned to his family. His death is probably the most well-known example of violence against Syrian children. In the past year the Syrian security forces have murdered more than 13,000 civilians, including 800+ children, many of whom were tortured to death while in government custody--just like Hamza. We, the understand ask Google to change their logo on May 25, in honor of Hamza and in honor of all the children of Syria who are today faced with the threat of violence, torture and death. A doodle for Hamza is an easy way for Google to spread awareness of the crimes taking place against children in Syria.
