Bernadette Papi | Love to see this in SoPo. I get our eggs from my sister in Gorham. Never dared hope they would be allowed here. It would be great!
Linden Thigpen Pavloff | In these times of rising costs and lack of food security this is an excellent proposal. A good learning experience for children, to learn not only where food comes from but to have the care responsibilities and joy of harvesting on a daily bases.
Maura Heffernan | What is the big deal. Let people have chickens. It makes great sense in so many ways. Read the letter from the Colins family.

Alison McClure | Chix are great pets!..I had 5 in Standish and one had to be removed from the others due to being 'henpecked'. I named her Sally..She came running when she heard my truck arrive home; she tried to get into my truck when I opened the door...she followed me about the yard--everywhere I went..she was right there with me..I kept her in a plastic container in the garage at night with a grate on the top and every morning, she produced for me, an egg and a clean box--no messes at all.....and as soon as I took the grates off and opened the door to outside, she'd jump out, and run outside to 'do her business' --I was surprised to learn chickens really like their homes clean...great pet!!!! I got really attached to her...until the fox got her one day when she was out and about...sad day....The eggs were the best..so creamy and rich...nothing like the store bought ones..delicious!

Clara Cohan | I live in Cape Elizabeth and have chickens and fully support having backyard hens. It is a great learning experience for everyone, fresh eggs locally, and great compost!
Donna Harkins | I can see no reason why you can not have hens in so portland providing all the guidelines are followed, and no more than six pet hens(no roosters)allowed.

Phyllis Reames | I am a transplant from the inner city of Minneapolis where it is perfectly accepted and legal to keep chickens in the city. During the 12 years I lived there someone on my block always had chickens and there was never a problem.
Anonymous | I am going through this right now. Good luck to you.
Bryan Kaenrath |
Jared Payton | It's time to keep pushing South Portland in greener directions.
Amanda Fickett | I'm all for giving peeps a chance! My family has lived in South Portland for over a century-- my grandfather served on the council for 30 years, and we've always been proud of our agricultural heritage. South Portland was once mostly farmland and asking to return to our roots a little doesn't sound like the end of the world to me-- infact, it sounds fantastic.
Tara Cloutier | As long as no one gets out of control, I'm all for it!
Destry Oldham-Sibley | I wholeheartedly support amending the ordinance!

Arline Saturdayborn | I heartily support the eggsellent idea of amending the existing zoning ordinance to allow up to 6 pet hens and no rooster for personal use and egg production.
Dennis A Studer | fought this battle with West Des Moines last winter...managed a couple of extensions after they threatened me with $200 fines per day per violation for my three hens, and got them to discuss and consider. Had to adopt Roxie, Blacky and Blondie out to a co-workers parents who had several acres before the city reached them. Soon I will go to a council meeting and request that the issue be revisited, and have been collecting "ammo" such as that I've found here. Great stuff. Thanks, and best to you.
