Name: Wendy West on Jun 13, 2007Comments: I am a neighbor of Olivia's, and am strongly in support of her efforts. It is my hope that the city of South Portland will be open-minded and fair on this issue, and see that there are no health risks associated with this undertaking, and that the risk of impact on property values is minimal to non-existent. SoPo Chickens is an attempt to experience a greener, healthier way of life, and I commend it.Flag

Name: Cyndi Walsh on Jun 13, 2007Comments: I think it's a wonderful idea, coming from the country here in maine, we too had alot of fresh eggs for breakfast. It was fun as well as educational for us as children. My children were exposed to this as well when they were growing up. We still have access to fresh eggs. The ordinance should be bent a little to allow the tender loving care for these animals in thier backyards. The coups can be very clean, and very cute when decorated for the hens.Flag

Name: Anne Piergrossi on Jun 13, 2007Comments: I myself would love to have 2 or 3 hens just for the eggs and the fun of keeping them! My backyard is big, I'd keep them in a well-secured coop, and it wouldn't bother anyone, any more than a dog or a cat.Flag

Name: Dawn Peaslee on Jun 16, 2007Comments: I'm 48 yrs. old and I live in the same house that I grew up in here in So. Portland. I'm not on the outskirts of town, but just off Broadway near Cash Corner. When I was young, several families had poultry in my nieghborhood. One family down the street had chicken, ducks, geese and turkeys. A lady two houses up from me had ducks. I myself had a pet rooster that slept in my bedroom at night. Now "I" wouldn't let my daughter, who is nine, have chickens in her room( I was so lucky to have such wonderful grandparents who raised me) but she and I would love to be able to have a couple of hens of our own, in our own backyard. I want her to have some of the same experiences I had and enjoyed and learned from as a child. To go get your own fresh egg for breakfast from right in the backyard, caring and feeding the hens, cleaning and compost the hen house and pen. Learning first-hand about where your food comes from. Chicken can be pets! I know. I had one. And I'ld like to be able to have one, or two, again. Please consider this. Thank youFlag

Name: Heather Roberts on Jun 18, 2007Comments: realy they are great pets and offer so much to their owners, we eat our own eggs, use the manure in our gardens, and they keep the bugs-ticks down. people need to stop being silly! if everyone owned chickens for home pets we would put the huge chicken barns that abuse their chickens out of harming chickens forever.Flag
