Name: Catherine Sullivan on Dec 17, 2004State: WACountry: USComments: I am low income and I have a granddaughter. I also became an activist because I am extremely concerned about the treatment of the poor and the demonization they often have to endure. The ignorance about who they are is rampant ~ especially among the wealthy. But this experimentation really takes the cake. To use low income children and their families like this is the most elitist, insensitve, uncaring, ignorant, irrational, aloof treatment of human being there has been in oh, say around 60 years ago when other medical experiments used people this way. Stop it. Just stop it.Flag

Name: Jon Powell on Dec 17, 2004State: ORCountry: USComments: I was outraged when I heard about this study. The way in which it is conducted, targeting only poor African-American families, harkens back to the Tuskegee Syphilis Study. What really makes the CHEERS study abhorrent is that it involves infants. INFANTS, by God. We should be doing everything possible to make infants as healthy as possible and do our best to assure that they will grow up strong and healthy. I don't see any way that spraying pesticides in their homes and rooms will help us to do this. We already know that pesticides are harmful and should not be in their environment. To target only low-income African American infants smacks of outright racism as well as a complete lack of any moral values. The people who greenlighted and administer this study should be brought up on criminal charges in every court possible.Flag
