Hello, everyone my name is, Jamarie Calvin Bibby. Im sitting here,writing this concise statement of why my school needs to change up the rules a little bit. The consequences are far to brutal and, the teachers give some pretty sever consequences for the littlest things that leave the loving students in dreary. So im here on behalf of getting some people, worldwide to hear me out on how horrible and unfair the consequences are in the school and, what we can do to give the future students at Achievement First Crown Heights Middle School, a much more satisfying and welcoming environment. Here's an example of one of the harsh consequences. So last week my class and I was in math class. My friend Dexcee had to use the bathroom extremely bad. So she raised her had with such eager and force to show her desperate needs to goto the restroom. So our math teacher Ms. Warton told her and i quote " Put Your Hand Down. You should've went during break". May I Mind You Break Was 3 periods ago and we only get 2 chances for using the bathroom each day. Thats lunch and our am break which is 6 periods apart. Thats very very far apart.So my friend Dexcee was making some grunting sounds and called out " I REALLY NEED TO GO PEE". At that very moment the math teacher Ms.Warton told her, " Goto the deans office. You have an automatic detention ". So as im observing this I am thinking to myself. "WHAT THE HECK ?" an automatic detention because she had to use the bathroom ???. On top of that sending her to the deans for an additional 2 detentions?. "wow" i told myself. Another example, so in my school we have something called a demerit system were you get a demerit for minor misbehaviors, like talking, not tracking the teacher, talking when not suppose to and things of that nature. So my class and i had just came back from picture day in the auditorium and we were a little late into history class our second class of the day. So I am just sitting in class taking notes and participating and then in my mind I thought " Wow class seems longer than usual". So i took a peep over at the clock in my class room to see what time it was. " Jamarie you have a demerit" I was so baffled to her confusing statement about me getting a demerit. I don't understand . Did i do something wrong ?. Knowing I Should'nt have i called out and said "what did i do" then my history teacher said " for looking at the clock". I was so disgruntled and infuriated. Like how can i earn a demerit for looking AT THE CLOCK. If thats the case then maybe there should be no clock in the school. The last thing i want to write about right now is the time of year we start school. For the past 5 years so far that i've been at Achievementfirst every year they lower he day on which we're expected to go back to school.
2009= August 31st
2010= August 15th
2011= August 17th
2012= August 16th
2013= August 14th.
I asked one of the ladies in the main office " why do we start school so early?". You know what her answer was ? " the earlier the more you learn. everything in my school is learning to these people. Like we have to start about 3 weeks earlier than other schools. Starting school this early can interfer with family vacations and transportation since school buses dont begin to run until all schools ( public) offically opens.Then they make us come to school on special holidays like
veterans day
election day.
Even when the d.o.e says that new york schools are suppose to do something Achievement first breaks the rules. For example that day last week when we hard that snow day mayor Bloomberg said that there was suppose to be no afterschool programs today and all students should be dismissed at their dismissal time. But noooo detention is so important to Achievementfirst that we had to have it. As a result of that like about 25-30 percent of the detention scholars went home in soaking wet pants and many got sick.
