We, the under signed, think that the grading system at Souhegan High School should be changed. We think that Meets Expectation should be 90% to 95%, unlike the current 83% to 85%. We also think that Exceeds Expectations should be 100% and, at teacher’s discretion, extra credit. According to the Gale Encyclopedia of Education, if a student who normally gets A’s gets a B, their motivation lessens and they tend to continue to get worse grades. Also, as said on an article on ABC News, “grading practices are generally more consistent and much more traditional at the secondary level,” but because our grading system is an exception, this may discourage students to be enrolled at SHS. Lastly, by comparing the honor rolls of AMS and SHS for the first trimester of this school year and the third trimester of last year, one can see that the AMS honor roll has at least 200 more kids on it than SHS.
