Why should the majority of schools in the United Kingdom start at around 9.00 a.m. when students are not fully active and engaged in learning. Students should only get a short lunch of 30 minutes and a 5 minute break time, it is not neccesary for students to have long amounts of lunch time if they are going to school to educate themselves. The time school finishes is too early however. Most primary schools finish at 3.15 p.m. which doesnt give them enough time to complete set work, especially with a long lunch and a break in the day, along with being tired and drowsy in the morning. Secondary Schools which include teenagers between the age of 12 and 16 should be the main place where schools start later in the morning and finish later in the afternoon, especially since most teenagers need sleep for their own health. Studies have shown that the average teenager wont be fully awake until 10 a.m. in the morning. School Holidays should also be cut down, but mainly the long summer holiday of 6 weeks, most children forget alot after 6 weeks without going to school or revising throughout the holidays, the two weeks easter holiday is also unneccesary, one week is enough time to celebrate Easter.
