Hachette UK has reversed their decision and committed to keeping the Chambers office in Edinburgh. This victory belongs to the 1,644 people who signed this petition. Keep a close eye on their transition as we ensure they honor their promise to maintain these essential Scottish roots.
We would like to register our support for the campaign to retain the Chambers office in Edinburgh. Chambers books, notably The Chambers Dictionary, have a distinctive quality that is due in no small part to their Scottish roots. We urge Chambers's parent company Hachette UK to reconsider its decision which could bring an end to Chambers's 190-year presence in Scotland and threatens the continued existence of the Chambers name.
Note added 22 December 2009: Sadly a buyer was not found and the Edinburgh office closed on 18 December 2009. The staff and supporters of Chambers would like to thank everyone who signed the petition for their support.
We just hit the one thousand signature mark for keeping Chambers in Edinburgh. Take this link and post it on Facebook or text three friends to keep the pressure on our target.

This is a massive loss for Edinburgh. Chambers is an institution and it just feels wrong to ship it all down south.
