Name: Michelle Uche on May 3, 2012Comments: You will not attack Keeanga Yamahtta Taylor and get away with it. Taylor, along with the four other women you attacked, have worked very hard to get where they are now and to let Riley diminish their work is appalling. Clearly she doesn't know how racism works in our society and as such she should be removed from her position. We don't need another avenue for racism in academia.Flag

Name: Lynette A. Jackson on May 3, 2012Comments: Riley's vitriol has no place in a journal devoted to scholarly exchange. What were they thinking? Are there no safe harbors left from the rising tide of teaparty-style resentment and racism?Flag

Name: Robin Berryman on May 3, 2012Comments: This is vile. Not only did this woman blatantly attack the scholarship of phd students, she did so personally, assuming that a handful of (good!) dissertations titles represented the field of Black Studies IN ITS ENTIRETY, but she also implies that both black studies and black life is a completely laughable and irrelevant subject. To that I say, she may have the privilege of thinking that it is irrelevant, but when its your lived experience there is no choice but to acknowledge not only its relevance, but also it's extreme value.Flag

Name: Harry Gao on May 3, 2012Comments: This has nothing to do with what one thinks about black studies. This has everything to do with proper scholarly conduct, with general courtesy and respect. This isn't solely a "black studies" issue - this is a problem of academia as a whole.Flag
