Name: Kwame Botwe-Asamoah on Jun 8, 2012Comments: This racist problem exits in the Black Studies itself in the form of self-hatred. As you know, there are some Black/African intellectuals, enamored in the Eurocentric paradigm, teaching in Black/Africana Studies departments/programs. I had a personal experience with respect to my book on "Kwame Nkrumah's Politico-Cultural Thought and Policies," which was considered political and advocacy by an individual responsible for the assessment of my scholarship for the faculty committee.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 5, 2012Comments: As an African graduate student in an American university, I was a Teaching Assistant for a class in the African American Studies department. I was absolutely impressed by the breadth of the material covered in the department, and the difference that these classes made to all students who took them, regardless of race, or even nationality. The classes I had the privilege to assist in truly changed my way of teaching by demonstrating how perspective can make even the most familiar strange and by doing so, give students a better understanding of what they thought they knew. Am sorry to see Ms. Riley did not embrace the opportunity given her to grow in the same way.Flag
