Comments: This post was nothing but a long exposition of the author's belief that the experience of Black people is not a legitimate area of scholarship even in the face of continued evidence that Black people around the world suffer from racism and discrimination which results in Black people being disproportionately impoverished, suffering from lower life expectancy, and continued social exclusion. This piece flies in the face of not only Black Studies departments around the country but every scholar of color, or a member of any marginalized population, that dares to study how society falls short in its goals of providing spaces where everyone has the opportunity to flourish and live.

Comments: The snide, dismissive attacks Ms. Riley on genuine scholarship is abhorrent. I'm also curious as to how many of those titles with funny names she actually bothered to read. Please show some substance and make certain she's aware that her criticism was not even discourse -- it was an outright attack on the hard work of scholars who have put their hearts into their studies.

Comments: Naomi Schaefer Riley does not employ reason when speaking on matters of education. She reflects poorly on the Chronicle and it is a shame that the publication endorses her views.

Comments: after reading this, I had doubts about the scholarship of only one person involved: Naomi Schaefer Riley. This diatribe was nothing more than an attack on students. what an embarrassment.

Comments: The Chronicle has quite a bit to answer for here. Polemic might well have a place in academic discourse, but vicious personal attacks do not.

Comments: Sometimes the Chronicle is excellent. Often it is mediocre. This? Is repellent. The editor responsible deserves a reprimand at bare minimum, and firing is not even slightly an unreasonable response.

Comments: It is difficult for me to see the scholarly value in Schaefer Riley's article. Also as a Black PhD student it make me feel as if the Chronicle in some ways may not value my place in the scholarly debate.
