Name: John Brigham on Jun 2, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: I am strongly opposed to Wal-Mart building one of the stores near my development and it can only mean negative things for my home value and safety. It is proven that crime increases as well as property values decrease per recent, plus making it difficult for police to do their job in this area. There is no way that Union County can approve such a building permit given the main factors stated above. I would say that over 90% of the current homeowner's in Somerset, Hunter Oaks, the Marvin area would not want to own a home or purchase a home that is that close to a Wal-Mart supercenter. Because no one wants negative equity or increase in crime that threatens the well-being and safety of their families.Flag

Name: Jeanne Kenley on Jul 6, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: I believe that Walmart is only it this for the almighty dollar. To ruin neighborhoods and put a big box store in a neighborhood area that backs up to houses is just plain selfish especially when it is not wanted by area residents. As long as it benefits the company is what Walmart's logo should be. There are more optimal places just down the road.Flag

Name: James Pulley on Jul 17, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: Years ago I had a number of peers who were virtually held captive at the walmart data center during a set of large scale load tests. It would seem that walmart doesn't treat vendors with any more respect than they are treating us, the residents around the area in question. I do not support a walmart and will do all I can to support the effort not to place one in our vicinity. Clearly through this entire process Walmart has not operated with honesty or openess.Flag

Name: Gary & Sue Foster on Aug 3, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: Wal-Mart is a well run organization and brings significant beneifits to to many communities, however the proposed Union County site at Tom Short & Rea road is NOT an appropriate location for a Wal-Mart. As citizens become increasingly aware of their communities, it is important that businesses and personal homes are properly blended in an effort to maintain and enhance the community's potential. A Wal-Mart store would not compliment this residential area. I am writing to speak out against the proposed Wal-Mart at this site and offer my support to utilize the space for an appropriate neighborhood shopping center.Flag

Name: L B on Aug 5, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: I use to support WalMart but right now it's hard for me to even walk in one. I can't believe that Walmart would even consider putting a SuperWalmart at the corner of Tom Short and Rea Road. There are so many families that have moved there to have a nice communities for their kids to grow up in. If a super walmart ends up there it will bring so much crime to our area -- which that's a proven statistic. It's a crime that they would do this to our kids and our upscale neighborhoods. There are places for superwalmarts and this location is not the right one.Flag

Name: Trey McClendon on Aug 6, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: Please DO NOT put a supercenter in Union Co. NC at the intersection of Tom Short and Rea Rd. That is NOT the type of business wanted here by anyone in this area. If we want Walmart, we'll get on the interstate for a few minutes and go to one just off the exit where these things need to be. (i.e., not in someone's neighborhood). I guarantee that, if built, my $'s will go to Target.Flag

Name: Barbara B Wilkerson on Aug 31, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: I am opposed to the Wal-Mart Supercenter proposed for the site at the intersection of Rea and Tom Short Roads. Not only will it adversely affect traffic in the area, it will decrease the property values of all the homes in the immediate area. That portion of Rea Road is definitely residential as evidenced by Hunter Oaks, Somerset, and the new Longview developments. It is time that politiians use common sense and deny the Special Use permit to Wal-Mart.Flag

Name: James L Wilkerson on Aug 31, 2003State: NCCountry: USComments: The area of Tom Short and Rea Roads is a residential area. Hunter Oaks, somerset, and Longview set the tone for the area. The Union County Board of Adjustments needs to stand firm and deny the Special Use permit to Wal-Mart. This board needs to stand firm and not buckle to the pressures applied by a huge corportation. Other communities have denied Wal-Mart access to property. Union County should follow the corageous path set by these communities.Flag

True I'm am only one consumer, but when you multiple my sentiments over and over again their will be an impact. Sincerly, Dennis SobotkaFlag

Name: Frank Skinner on Sep 7, 2003State: NCCountry:Comments: I do not want a Wal-Mart store at the intersection of Rea Road and Tom Short Road in Union County. I have learned a lot about the negative impact a large Wal-Mart can have on a community from where I lived a few years ago and do not want that to happen to our community. I am 100% for commercial development and growth including at the intersection of Rea Road and Tom Short but I do not feel that a mega Wal-Mart is appropriate in terms of need nor do I think that the traffic, parking, and land use needs will work adequately on the available property. A much smaller development seems much more appropriate.Flag
