Name: Tina Thompson on Jan 14, 2013Comments: My son was diagnosed in September 2007 at the age of 4-1/2 years. We were informed that they do not test for Cystic Fibrosis unless there is a positive family history. We spoke to our families and there were family members distantly on my husband's side but none as far as I know on my side. Thankfully, my son has no active lung disease, his was more digestive at diagnosis, but of course we have to treat the lungs. If newborn screening for Cystic Fibrosis were mandatory, many families could benefit from this. Thank you!Flag

Name: Kenda Power on Jan 14, 2013Comments: My oldest child was born in Nova Scotia. We have newborn screening in the province of Saskatchewan where we now live. I hope that you will consider this for the children that are born in your province. It is well known that children who are diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at birth live longer and have better quality of life than those diagnosed at a later age. Please ensure that all children in Canada are treated equal. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. KendaFlag

Name: Gail Smithson on Jan 14, 2013Comments: This should be essential in every province. I have seen how early diagnosis can help a young baby and parents. Our honoury nephew was not diagnosed till he was 8 months and just those few months of not knowing if he knew earlier would be so much easier for a baby.Flag

Name: Karen Kellett on Jan 14, 2013Comments: Why is the Nova Scotia government dragging its feet on this issue? Newborn screening for Cystic Fibrosis is essential to improved health and quality of life for those born with CF. Shame on this government for delaying NBS implementation. Young lives and families in your province and region are being affected every day you delay.Flag
