The Petition

To: Secretary-General, United Nations

18 May 2007

Ban Ki-moon
Secretary - General
United Nations, New York

Your Excellency,

In light of the rapidly deteriorating situation in Srilanka, we/I would like to call on you to bring the issue of Srilanka to the UN Security Council.

On paper, the Cease Fire Agreement signed in 2002 between the Government of Srilanka and the Liberation of Tamil Tigers Eelam remains in place, but it has been undermined by deadly violence. The recent violence between the two sides have left thousands of people homeless and the non-governmental organisations have confirmed that both sides had shown \' brazen disregard\' for civilians and accused them of carrying out summary executions and abductions.

The increasing political tension and the confrontation between the GOSL and the LTTE can lead to civil unrest and more people are likely to be massacred in another round of bloodbath like in last three Eelam wars (1983 - 2001).

We believe that it is the time for the United Nations to consider an intervention in Srilanka to help restore the peace, an aspiration of the people of Srilanka for many decades. We believe that because of the urgency of the problem in our country, Srilanka will be considered a priority agenda at the United Nations.

Yours Sincerely,

The undersigned
