With all of the public shooting in recent years, with a majority of them being on a school campus, it is important for the student body to be able to defend themselves. I pose that those with a CCW permit should be permitted to carry a weapon with them on campus. This will make any potential perpetrator think twice about carrying out an attack on the ASU student body. It is a fact that with the unarmed populous waits on the police to respond to a mass shooting the average death toll is 18.25 people. When an armed citizen intervenes the number of deaths is only 2.2. ASU University President, Mr. Crow, sent an email to the entire student body at a time when House Bill 2729 was being proposed in the Arizona state legislature that would allow the general populous to carry a weapon in all state buildings. He asked that the student body contact their representatives and ask them to reject the bill. His reason in the letter was "how will the SWAT team responding to the incident determine if you are the shooter or just an armed citizen". The logic is flawed since it takes on average about 15 to 20 minutes for police to respond to a incident like these, by that time any one of the many weapon carrying student body could have taken care of the assailant and then put there weapon down thus not posing a threat to any of the officers. The SWAT team would not be faced with the dilemma that Mr Crow think would happen. I personally, as a part of the student body, do not want to be part of the body count of yet another school shooting. I want to be prepared in case of an emergency and not need to use it rather than need to use it an not be prepared. As a CCW permit holder I know of the training and the background check required to be able to carry concealed and pose that those with such a permit should be allowed to carry on campus to protect those around us and ourselves from harm.
