As former faculty and staff of Chester College, we were very disappointed to see the college close.  CCNE was a nurturing art-immersive community in which the students received hands-on art education.

            When President Bob Baines and the Trustees closed the college, they announced that the students should transfer to New England College (“NEC”).  In fact, the vast majority transferred to the New Hampshire Institute of Art (“NHIA”), not NEC.

              We believe that Chester’s endowment should follow Chester’s students to NHIA.  A transfer of the endowment to NHIA will benefit the most Chester students and will keep faith with Chester’s mission as an art school.

              With the closing of Chester, New Hampshire has just one art college, NHIA.  That’s where the Chester funds should go, especially where it has undertaken the responsibility and cost of educating most of Chester’s students.
