These poor folk from Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean and Africa are natural allies for us here to form the movement which must be built if any of the demands on this petition are to be realized. The economic policies and trade programs which give rise to this mass movement of people to search for a better chance to support themselves and their families must be dismantled for these same policies impoverish our brothers and sisters here in the U.S. With respect, I suggest that the petition include a clause to this effect. | 549 | 01 | We recently had a mayorial race in Chicago with a Blacks making up more than 50% of all the registered voters. It was an excellent opportunity to gain valuable ground politically and economically. To our shame we recorded the lowest voter turnout that Chicago has seen in 65 years! When people are confused...they do nothing...where was our Black leadership? We had an impecable Black candidate in William "Dock" Walls, a community activist an former top aide to the late Mayor Harold Washington. Did the CBC even know we had an election? Where were the endorsements? All seven of the points mentioned in this petition are previlent in Chicago. The current mayor is under federal investigation and has a list of allegations against him longer than a George Bush "weapons of mass destruction "lie. If Chicago is not on the agenda to establish Blacks in government, where are we concentrating...Gary, IN? We need real leadership. HELP US GET RID OF DALEY. |
