Stop the skinning of live cats and dogs!

466 Signatures Goal: 500

Dear Mr. Mandelson, As you are most probably aware, there are over two million cats and dogs being raised under deplorable conditions in Asia, particularly China, and then skinned alive or strangled or stabbed to death for their furs and skins. There is no cultural aspect to this business, just pure greed. These skins and furs are used on products that are being sold throughout the EU and as EU citizens we find this outrageous! We are concerned that while the US, Australia and five EU nations: Italy, Denmark, France, Greece and Belgium have banned this fur, the EU as a whole has rejected requests from virtually every country and its leadership to ban the import, export, sale and production of this fur. Without a complete ban this terrible business will continue in the EU. The Matrix Chambers, a prominent UK law firm has issued a report that an EU ban on cat and dog fur would be justified under the EC treaty and it would not cause a WTO trade issue. This letter is to ask that as a leader in the EU Commission you propose a ban on this fur immediately. Not only is the cruelty intolerable but we feel strongly that these products with fraudulent labels harm us as consumers. We are also worried about the toxicity levels of some of the children
