Name: Jenny Hill on Nov 6, 2007Comments: My cat is an indoor cat...why should I have to put a collar on him that could hook on something and cause him harm....he's not running loose and even if he were, cats are helping to keep the rodent population down. Would you rather have a cat run thru your yard or have mice and rats in your houseFlag

Name: Tamara Doull on Nov 6, 2007Comments: I think this by-law is unnessary, if we are really concerend about the cat population being a disterbance then the cost to spay/neuter them should be alot less expensive by offerign a goverment rebate after the procedure. By doing this more people would have this done to there cats.Flag

Name: Shelley Goodson on Nov 6, 2007Comments: Kudos to the councillors who voted against this bylaw. Those who voted for it should be ashamed. There are individuals who hate cats who will use those HRM-issued traps and who might not bother taking the animals to the "shelter". Please apply your energy to solving the real problems this city has - they are legion - and stop these absurd attempts to micro-manage everything else. If any cats are harmed because of this, the lawsuits will be flying.Flag

Name: Dean Harnish on Nov 6, 2007Comments: What a waste of time, how about just fining owners of cats that get out & cause havoc, my cat was never outside without me & if he got away I would've paid a small fine for the inconsiderate act on my neighbors or others. I am kinda glad my cat left this world in July 2007 cause he would not put up with it either, he was a fighter like me, standing his group (always hissing when you pissed him off) now I'm pissed so hiss on you idiots wasting the time, money & taxpayers $$ on such a menial task of animal lovers, I salute you with me finger of choice.Flag

Name: Mindy Macdonald on Nov 7, 2007Comments: There are much more important issues that council could use $3.5 million dollars to fix! This by-law seems to be designed to protect home-owners gardens, and has nothing to do with animal welfare, as an aside I would suggest that children/teenagers do more damage to private property, perhaps we could trap and euthanize them (Jokes, but lets be honest this by-law is ridiculous).I would propose that a trap-and-neuter program would be much more effective in controling our feral feline population, and would eventually decrease the money we spend on trapping and euthanizing strays.Flag

Name: Kathryn Greeno on Nov 7, 2007Comments: What a joke. Tax the cats - time would be better spend reviewing the age limit to dive, or spend more time with education. You can't drink till age 19, you can't smoke at all, but a 16 year old can get behind the wheel of a car and kill someone. How sick is that. Our Gov needs to rethink the reason why they are there in the first place. I don't think cats or pets of anykind should even be in the picture. Leave the cats alone. How about taxing the gov for the over run of RATS which are over run in the city and now moving to the country because of the new garbage laws... come on guys, tax the rats.Flag
