Name: Sergio Bonich on Dec 12, 2006Comments: It has come to the time of killing the "American Dream". Either go uninsured or sell your house, as property taxes and insurance are unaffordable on the fixed income population. There should be an insurance to cover fire, theft and other damages not related to hurricanes, but no one sells it unless you purchase the whole package. I have to live uninsured due to the mismanaged system that we have now.Flag

Name: Desiree Devereaux on Sep 18, 2007Comments: I am not a resident of Florida, but I am a resident of Louisiana. I have lived in the same house with my mother for 50 years, acting as her caretaker for the last five. My mother was covered by Allstate homeowners for YEARS, and her policy renewed automatically in August for another year. Well, she died last May 17 and left me the home we have shared for my whole life. Today, the insurance company told me that I would have to have the insurance put in my name. However ... the only way they will cover me is if I also transfer my car insurance over to Allstate (it's with Shelter now). Also, they can only sell me basic homeowners. If I want wind/hail coverage, then I'll have to go to Citizen's Insurance, a company owned by the state of Louisiana as a "last hope" for people who can't get insurance anywhere else. The rates are *exhorbitant*! This just doesn't seem fair! I then called my car insurance company and asked for a homeowners insurance quote but was told that Shelter has not been allowed to write new homeowners policies in the state of Louisiana for the last year. Pitiful, pitiful. PITIFUL. I have to tell you, I'M SCARED and don't know what I'm going to do.Flag
