Name: Andrew Pelling MP on Dec 14, 2009Comments: Government figures show that an average of five to ten asylum applications were lodged each day at the Liverpool Asylum Screening Unit. Closing the Liverpool Unit could therefore mean up to an additional 3,650 asylum seekers coming to Croydon each year. This will need to be reflected in the provision of services. I feel that any such costs arising from the decision to establish Croydon as the only ASU should be met from central funds.Flag

Name: Mark Allsopp on Dec 14, 2009Comments: I strongly object to Croydon being used as the only in-land asylum seeking unit in the country on the ground that in Croydon there is no where enough council, social landlord or affordable housing for the indigenous population. I for one have been on the council waiting list for 5 years, have been unemployed 14 months (banking disaster victim) and still have absolutely no chance of being offered affordable housing.Flag
