Name: Patty Williams on May 8, 2007Comments: Yes i totally agree that our road conditions does indeed need a new top layer, its unbelievable how one being pregnant like myself and would rather walk to the stores and hates like hell to have to go around the harbour to the clinic in a vechicle because of the bumpin and banging due to the very poor road conditions. Imagine those that just may have to travel around those god forsaken roads by ambulance, depending on the condition of their health ; make one wonder if they would even have a chance to survive the ride to the clinic Why is it that Labrador, especially our town of Cartwright always has to fight for what rightfully should be considered important in the first place. To me i really dont think we are asking for to much are weFlag

Everyone should have their input into this, there are more power in numbers. Good luck! LouiseFlag

There should be no need of having a petition to get the matters in Cartwright addressed. Minister John, should acknowledge and address these situations before they get out of hand.Flag

Name: Barbara Pardy on May 8, 2007Comments: I remember around 1979 we had a similar situation. I remember a CBC newsreporter named Fred Greening filming us in the back of a truck throwing out sand ourselves because the road had deteriorated so bad up around Wilfred Dyson's, you literally had to wear hip rubbers to walk through it. (I have pictures to show it...somewhere). That was a long time ago, surely the town's folk won't have to take it upon themselves to do the same in this day and age. Come on government, we've contributed a lot to your pocket, for heaven's sake, open up the money can and spend a little on us too!Flag

Name: Sandra Dyson on May 8, 2007Comments: A long term solution is most definitely what we need. We cannot afford to drive our decent vechicles on these roads, the repair costs are much too high and definitely unnecessary. It will soon be tourist season again as well, pretty embarrassing road conditions to have to drive through. Definitely not one of our strong return again points we have to offer.Flag

Name: Wendy Greenleaves on May 8, 2007Comments: The roads in Cartwright do need to be brought up to an acceptable standard not just a bit of low grade topping put over the bedrock. I remember not too many years back, government allocated funding to build up the roads & resurface them, they also did some ditching to provide drainage. Looking around the community today, one can attest to the fact that ditching was not done properly, I am certain that had this been done correctly in the first place, it would have allievated the problems we are currently experiencing with the roads today. I firmly believe that if government is going to spend money on road work, they should ensure that the road work is inspected by a fully qualified inspector to ensure the roads are up to quality standard prior to the final payments being handed out to the contractor.Flag

Name: Ruby W. Lethbridge, Taxpayer on May 8, 2007Comments: Nothing against the road crews. They do a fine job with what they have to work with. No where else but Labrador would this be acceptable in the province. Actually the roads need paved! In summer the dust in unhealthy for the residents lungs. Imagine what this dust is doing to the lungs of our children. Dust is in everything and on everything. Potholes are dangerous! Roads are narrow in most places and there is no safe place to walk. The roads need to be done right. The people deserve far better. CookieFlag

Name: Kirk Lethbridge on May 8, 2007Comments: In this the year 2007, it is unbelieveable that people have to drive on such terrible roads. With the billions that leave Labrador and a proposed park, it is about time governments put money into roads for Cartwright. I fully support this and gladly add my name to the petition.Flag
