Comments: I think that this is the only solution with closure of Main. CMS has the space and resources to absorb the 6th graders and relieve the elementary schools from over impaction and stressing their resources beyond their abilities.

Comments: This is the only way to make the transition work for the children of Carpinteria and not to stress the resources in the elementary schools to not serve K-5.

Comments: Enough is Engough! We need to move forward to make this a district we can all be proud of. These are tough decsions, but ones that must be made to insure that ALL of our students have the best possible education available to them.

Comments: This issue has become beyond ridiculous and embarrassing to our district. The decision about Main School's closure has been decided. Lets let it go and deal with the issue at hand. I do not agree with every part of what Paul does but that being said we really need to look at the full vision that Paul has for our district and support that. He is looking at what is best for the kids in the long run and sometimes we need to do things in stages. If we don't support the larger vision than it will be hard for us to have any vision for our district at all. I have a 7th grader at Carpinteria Middle School and a 5th grader at Aliso. My 7th grader is thriving at the middle school and tells me that she has never felt anything but safe there. She is challenged and I don't feel like that she is exposed to anything that she is uncomfortable with. My 5th grader doesn't want to loose the trip that the Aliso 6th graders take but mostly just wants to know were he will be going to school. I admit that there are pros and cons to both decisions but what 6th grade could achieve as a group would be amazing. I also don't think that everyone realizes how all the other grades at the elementary schools will be impacted by adding more students. I know that Aliso for one thing will loose its computer lab and any extra classrooms for extra activities. We must not forgetting that it is really about the kids and what is best for them. They really want to know more than anything where they will be going to school next year. Indecision is not helping them at all. Let Summerland 6th graders have a choice of where they want to go if need be. Also have an assistant Principal to Alicia Sexsmith during the first year to aid in the transition. We will never make anything a good thing unless we are fair to our teachers our kids and our parents by allowing them the necessary time to prepare.

Comments: I trust the school board who have studied the situation of the entire district from every angle and made a very difficult decision based on what will be best for every child in the district for years to come. It is time to move forward!

Comments: I have addressed the board encouraging them to return the 6th grade to CMS twice. I have also written to them personally. Closing Main was a hard, but necessary decision. Districts all up and down the coast line are facing the same decisions. Recinding the vote will only make things more difficult.

Comments: I have spoken to the board twice on my feelings that the 6th grade should be moved back to CMS. The decision, while hard, was made for real reasons that Carpinteria is facing. Like most of the central coast, we are facing less kids filling the seats. School boards all over are having to make the tough but necessary decisions to close schools. Keeping Main open doesn't solve any of the budget concerns.
