Description/History From April 3rd to November 1st Waveney District Council is to increase evening car-parking fees on the Claremont Pier, East Point Pavilion, Kirkley Cliff, Esplanade and Royal Green car parks from 50 pence from 6pm to 6am to £4 for up to three hours and £5 for three hours or more and free from 11pm to 6am. This could mean some people who just want to park for an hour paying £4. To date there has been little or no consultation with the public or businesses on the price increase, no public notices, and no explanation as to why the fees are so high, as a result businesses and clubs up and down Lowestoft sea front who rely on the car parking facilities will be severely affected by this price hike. The price increase would also hinder access to the promenade for the general public simply because it would be too expensive to park there and there is no alternative place to park. Waveney District Council has a duty to inform, consult and explain when increasing car parking tariffs and there should be transparency and accountability when matters like this arise concerning the public purse. Petition We the undersigned express our concerns and call on Waveney District Council to reduce the proposed car parking fees scheduled to begin on April 3rd 2007 to a reasonable level, and that level to be negotiated and agreed by all parties concerned and without prejudice.
