Brian Smith | The horrendous town and local governments we have in Carmel and Putnam County lies soley at the feet of you registered Republicans. This is your mess, and these hacks are your doing. Stop whining and grow some brass.

John Kotoski | Honest inquiry, is one of the core values of liberty, legal equality, and dignity. The policies and practices of our town board should and must held to a higher standard even if it is inconvenient.

Joanne Ryan | Obviously, no one on the town board is watching the "John Adams" series on HBO. Many founding patriots sacrificed their lives to give us our constitutional rights to free speech, and our fathers and forefathers fought and died to preserve that right.

Anonymous | Although it tends to slow down meetings, it is necessary and fair to allow public comment on all work sessions in a free society.

Cathleen Beyrer | I think the people of the town should have input in town government. Meetings certainly go faster without it, but the people should be heard. That's what America is all about.

| 171 | Peter Donelan | To the Carmel Town Board:
Because of a disability, I sometimes have a very hard time leaving my house - I depend on the other citizens of Carmel, what I like to call the ‘Watchdogs Group’ - I depend on them to attend the work group and official town board meetings. You must stop this silly 2 minute ‘Gag Rule’. Ken, I’m sure this was not your idea - I think the other board members got your ear. You MUST ALLOW the citizens of Carmel to speak !! NO LIMITS !! If this ‘Gag Rule’ is not reversed - I can GUARANTEE one thing. The NEXT TOWN BOARD will reverse this ‘Gag Rule’.. I will commit as much time as possible - to getting each and every board member off the board. Ken; You will be a ONE TERM SUPERVISOR!!
STOP GAGGING THE PEOPLE OF CARMEL & MAHOPAC !! BRING BACK FREE SPEECH NOW !! |

Lou Carricato | It's a sad day when the peoples voice is being stiffled. Be warned, the people must have a voice and it must be heard or we will become a totalitarian state and the liberties we hold dear today, will evaporate before our very eyes tomorrow.
Jan Greenbaum | The town board should relish the input of citizens for the fact that they are concerned citizens of the community with information to provide the town board so they can make educated decision on resolutions. This also allows citizens who watch the meetings on TV be informed as to both sides of an issue.
Michael Caruso | I can understand the need to run efficient meetings but this policy makes a mockery of democratic government originating from and serving the needs of the people. Not only are the comments limited by time, they are also limited to AGENDA ITEMS. So if the members of the Town Board have an issue they want to sweep under the carpet, they can just leave it off of any agenda. Whether or not this has been done yet cannot be determined but it certainly should not be left as a possibility for current members of the Board or any that have the privilege to serve on it in the future. The right of the people to raise issues or question our elected representatives IN A PUBLIC FORUM, so that all members of the community can hear their replies should be restored. Democracy can sometimes seem sloppy, but it still is the best system around and should not be abandoned solely for the appearance of “efficiency”.
Patricia Illiano | I am thankful that I live in the town of Kent, as the rules here permit citizens to comment during work sessions on ALL matters before the board.
C.Clement | All over local govts are shutting out the public from speaking at meetings. It's a ground-swell. Govt doesn't want others to hear about what your neighbor's are saying, or complaining about. Attending meetings is a civic obligation. Picket the meetings. Keep this issue in govt''s face.

joan stuckart | this is just as bad as them telling us to shop in putnam and where may i ask. carmel is really going to the dogs no wonder we see so many homes for sales.

Anonymous | It is amazing that a convicted criminal may speak before sentence is passed down on him but we are forbidden to speak before the ELECTED officials that we put into office vote on a resolution is passed. I would like to thank the Carmel Town Board for putting the Town of Carmel back a few centuries. I guess the Town Board's platform is regression not progression. It is also equally amazing that the Town Board embraced a CT developer that is blasting his way through our community, lets just hope that our Town remains after he is done. We have no one to blame but our ELECTED OFFICIALS for what is going to left when Carmada goes back to CT.
